Western Flyer Hot Tub Fish Handplane
Almost finished! Pre-order to make it yours!
This double concave, super glossy, fish-shaped handplane is totally unique. The redwood come from a hot tub salvaged in Aptos, California. The thick, dark, center stringer is Douglas fir from the hull of John Steinbeck's Western Flyer boat. The lightest color wood is spruce from Santa Cruz Guitar Company production offcuts. At the base is a dot of ebony with an snowflake-shaped, mother of pearl inlay. This little flourish also came from the Santa Cruz Guitar Company.
This is also the first item to incorporate our new, boat graphic that will only be used on products that contain wood from the Western Flyer boat.
This handplane uses Entropy Super Sap Epoxy bio-resin which is made using mostly tree sap. The hand strap is nylon and adjustable. It is covered with off cuts from O'Neill Wetsuit product development, and the wood is shaped with our unique, ergonomic hand fit. The hardware is solid brass. As with all Ventana handplanes, this one floats so you can easily pass it between friends in the waves.
This handplane comes with a Ventana, double-thick, reclaimed towel bag with Velcro closure leftover from a local seamstress.
